If you have ordered a whiskey sour at an average bar, you may think you don't care for this cocktail. Chances are, what you don't care for is bottled sour mix. It's awful.
Freshly made whiskey sours are nothing but delightful. Tart, tangy, sweet, sour, and spiked with whiskey but not in a bowl-you-over sort of manner. Whiskey sours are so drinkable, particularly in the warmer months. It's a bit like grown up lemonade.
I love to make these in big batches for parties and serve them with pretty garnishes (like brandied cherries or big slices of citrus on a skewer) over crushed ice. I have on multiple occasions convinced people who swear they don't care for whiskey to try a sip, and every single time, the result is the same...this drink changes their mind. They are that good!
