In January of 2011, I started a blog. We were living in the house on Hurley Avenue, and I was staying at home with our four children who were 8, 6, 3, and 18 months at the time. Rachel was living with us, we were opening our home to others on a regular basis, and I wanted an outlet, a place I could share my thoughts and my recipes and my life. So I started a blog and named it katherine sasser dot com.
I blogged actively for 18 months (four to five posts every week!), and then on and off for a couple of years after that, which dovetailed into the creation and launching of Hurley House.
The blog was one of the most fulfilling, rewarding pursuits I have engaged in. I am so proud of the work I did there and the things I learned along the way. The collection of posts from those years provides me a nostalgic glimpse into our family during a sweet season of our life.
Once I started Hurley House, I kept renewing the domain on my old blog, but created a new blog attached to the business website. I shared a few things sporadically on the Hurley House blog (announcements, mostly), but publishing posts for Hurley House wasn't something to which I gave much time or attention.
In the fall of 2017, after operating in the Hurley House retail location for 18 months, balance began to return to my life. The store was busy, we had settled into a routine, our staff was humming along, and the new-business kinks were slowly being ironed out. I was able to return to normal life in small but significant ways. As I did, something began to surface inside of me.
I missed blogging.
I started to wonder what it would look like for me to find a way to share posts on a regular basis again. The more I thought about it, the more excited I became. I got excited about the opportunity to expand our reach at Hurley House by offering content online. I got excited to organize and publish blog posts on a regular basis. I got excited to write again.
In January of this year, I started building a new blog platform using the old katherine sasser domain. My goal was to create a site that would support and supplement the Hurley House brand, but also represent my unique voice and be distinct from the business. As of today, the new site is live, and I am ready!
If you are an original consumer of the katherine sasser dot com blog from years ago, you will notice immediately that most of that content is no longer available. I had to make some tough choices about what to transfer, and at the end of the day, most of the posts did not make the cut. (If you need a specific recipe from the old site, please email me, and I will be happy to send it your way.)
If you are new to this blog, welcome. I hope you like it! My intent is to begin publishing recipes weekly, and filling out the other categories (Family, Lovely Living, Hospitality, and Heart) along the way. I would love to hear your feedback and ideas for posts!
Thank you for being a part of this community. I can't wait to see where it goes!
